Band Profile: Cyclamen

Cyclamen is the brain-child of one Hayato Imanishi. Beginning as a one-man, tech-metal project, Cyclamen has now grown into a full band with an 2 EPs and an album to their name.

Cyclamen found their break with the song 'Sleep Street' with Mikee Goodman of Sikth-fame on vocals. The song is noted for its' Sikth-like structure and the closest Goodman has come to returning to tech metal since Sikth disbanded in 2008. The song was later re-arranged with Imanishi on vocals and became 'Never Ending Dream'. This version would become the lead track from Cyclamen's 'Dreamers' EP and even earn itself a music video directed by acclaimed UK director, Tim Fox.

After the release of 'Dreamers', Cyclamen would begin to develop as a band and put out their first collaborative effort the following year. This would be a split EP with Haunted Shores which was recorded by none other than Dan Weller and Justin Hill, previously of Sikth. The band would continue to develop a style which was more their own; a melodious blend of tech metal and post rock with harsh and clean vocals.

In October, Cyclamen plan to release 'Senjyu'; their first full-length album. The album was available in advance at their Purple Turtle show on the 28th of September 2010 and further develops a distinctive sound which sees Imanishi develop an amazing vocal range from deep, guttural growls to very high melodies. This is an incredibly professional debut that shows the band's brilliant technical ability as well as fantastic song structure. No song outstays its' welcome and many moods are explored across the 12 tracks.
